In today's society, who has the same Tell It Like It Is style that Petey Greene was known for?

I just installed slingplayer for iPhone 3g which has been isolated to wifi hotspots. I understand there is a jailbreak function that makes the phone "think" its on wifi and will thus, allow you to stream tv via slingbox over 3g. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Petey had a style of his own! I enjoyed this movie so much! My 77 year old mother said it was the best movie she had seen! That says a lot. I am sad that it was not shown at all of the theatres in the San Diego area! Don Cheadle deserves and Oscar for his role. This movie was very inspiring. I reminisced, laughed, and cried. Not many movies can stir your emotions. This is one of few movies I would like to buy and share with friends and family!

from yeahwritekelli | August 19, 2007 08:09 PM

There is no Petey Green of today.
Most black DJs are limited to what they talk about because they play the records to please the record execs and to gain an audience. Plus they play the music by the entertainers - whether they like them or not - because they don't want to end up getting dissed on somebody's cd or having a concert cancellation on their annual cruise or back to school bus tour.
Why aren't more black DJs taking a stand on the Stop Snitching culture?
Where were the black DJs during the Imus controversy?
Why are they still playing R.Kelly's songs when the man has been indicted on charges relating to him having sexual contact with a minor?
Why do Black DJs publicly support artists that we all know are not making the black community look good?
That scene in the movie where Petey takes a shot at Berry Gordy - you don't see that today. Why? 1) Because the Black so-called "shock" DJs are too scared. 2) They agree with the injustice. Going with the crowd is easier than standing up for what's right alone.

I am so dissapointed that this film isn't on in my area...it was at one of the Harkins theatres for a couple of weeks and is now gone....I called the Harkins office in Phoenix and asked about the movie because they are the largest theatre chain in Arizona but they aren't interested in bringing it to any of their other locations...why is Focus Films distributing this movis this way?....guess I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD....

Every family in America, should send a family delegation to the Theatre to see this great Movie. And We should boycott, and theatre who refuses to show it. Invite me to your city, i'll help organize it.

I was a guest co host of Petey Greene on both his Radio and TV Shows at the age of 12 through 18. During this period, Prince Georges County, Md on the DC/MD Line was Changing.
And Police Brutality was rampard, but Petey keep many people cool, however he supported all our Marches. At age 18, Petey Greene encourage me to run for City Council, and he campaigned for me on his show. He was a great leader, who told it to the oung ,told it to the old, I will always remember him

from Larry Hutchinson Write-in Candidate for Mayor of Flint | August 13, 2007 10:57 AM

I am still running for Mayor here in the once third racist city in America. The show Talk to me still has not come to my town, and may not ever. So I'm still mad as a' motha'fugga, and still ready to protest. So, you all who posted my comments, than took them down, let this run and if you won't to you can take it down. Hutchinson for Mayor of Flint Michigan-no justice no peace.

Why such a limited distribution for such a great movie. It is extremely unfortunate that Focus Features does not understand the wide spread appeal this movie would have. Why did Focus Features only open it to a few theatres?. It is disturbing that the film only plays in 3 locations in Philadelphia, where there is an extremely large market for this movie. Focus Features has set this movie up for failure in the money making department.

from Seventies Soulchild | August 5, 2007 06:02 PM

I scoured my city Houston, TX for this movie and I found a theatre playing it. The movie was shown way back at the theatre. The distribution on this film is terrible! Focus Features need to distribute this movie better than what they are doing!
However, it was a wonderful important movie and I can't wait until it gets nominated for Oscars and other film awards.

How long do we have to wait to see this movie? It's the 4th of August and it's not here yet. So many people are missing out. What do we need to do, find the bootleg man!!!

I am truly DISSAPOINTED!
That after your new listings of movie houses to view, "Talk To Me" is still missing the masses. We in Chi-town would like to see this movie.
And not in the white areas where it's showing now!

I am Tuly Dissapointed!

from R Wheaton | July 31, 2007 02:22 AM

Not too many in the public eye today. Most radio and television personalities today seem to follow a fairly predictable agenda, be it liberal or conservative. The closest I can think of is Larry Elder. Although he has in many ways an obvious conservative slant on his radio show, he also promotes libertarian values which contrast sharply with the so called "social conservatives."

from Letrice from Compton, CA | July 28, 2007 08:02 PM

I just saw this movie and thought it was great! It's really sad to see so many people across America are having a problem finding this movie in their local theatres. If it was about guns, drugs, prositution or simple mindedness it would be showing at every theatre. Wake Up Black People. Don't go see the Simpsons. Make your dollars count. Let's not let them dictate what we want to see in our theatres.

from ron harris | July 28, 2007 04:27 PM

I knew Petey and he was pretty much the same guy in real life as he was on the radio. He always looked out for his fellow man. He was involved in an organization that helped ex cons assimilate back in society. He encouraged Channel 20, in DC to hire James Brown, CBS sports, to work the Wash. Bulletts games with Play by Play announcer Frank Herzog. He also encoraged me, whenever I saw him, to do the little radio work I did in those days.

from T. FAVOR | July 27, 2007 01:00 PM

This story was excellent!!! I grew up in this era and never heard of Mr. Petey Greene. What an experience I missed. My parents were not up on their black history like I'am. There has been anyone close to him except Mr. Richard Pryor........

I would love to see this movie. What happened to the 7/27 release date to all theaters, it has come and gone and still the movie is in limited release. What is the problem?

from Bryan Redd | July 27, 2007 10:34 AM

Hello, love the film, but why isn't the movie showing in all theatres. This movie was great and a true story. But you can put a movie like Chuck & Larry in all films and not a true story like Talk to me. THIS IS SICK, what is Hollywood doing!!!

This is getting ridiculous. I have been seeing previews for two weeks now about this movie yet it is not playing anywhere close to where I live. Furthermore, the movie theaters have no idea when or if they will be getting the movies. This is why certain "black" movies dont do well at the theaters. In order to get credit where credit is due, one has to give people a chance to see these movies. Thanks for listening. El Paso, Texas

from Jeffrey Lewis | July 27, 2007 06:14 AM

I live in Detroit, Michigan, and i can only find the movie Talk o Me in two movie theaters, in this whole State, and they are in mostly white areas. Whats going on with that. There are two theaters in the City of Detroit that are mostly Black, and they are not playing the move, whats up with that, how can we support a movie that we know is going to be good and we can't even get to a theater thats playing it, somethings wrong with that. i WANT TO SUPPORT TALK TO ME, BUT I'AM NOT GOING TO GO WAY OUT OF ME CITY TO SEE IT.FORGET THE SELECT THEATER BS GET THE MOVIE OUT IN MORE THEATERS SO WE THE PEOPLE WHO CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MOVE IS ALL ABOUT CAN SEE IT. SOMEBODY TALK TO ME. JEFF LEWIS DETROIT. PS (STAY WITH ME)

from sunsearay | July 26, 2007 06:37 PM

Oh the outrage!no one in my town of chicago can do what is sounds like petey green did. they dont talk about anything crucial. Oh no wait there is Cliff kelly on WVON1390 i think. he gets in that ASS! yes Sir cliff Kelly.i guess ill go see knocked up!

from Kellen B. | July 24, 2007 05:53 PM

this sucks I cannot find this movie anywhere and I stay in Miami a Major Metropolitan area. I dont know when they plan to release it here but this really sucks is there anything I can do to get it released.

from Lucinda L. | July 24, 2007 12:26 PM

I remember Petey Greene in Washington, DC. He had a show that would come on every Friday called on Channel 20 (WDCA) BC (Before Cable), "Petey Greene's Washington." Although I was a young girl back then about 9 or 10), my father would have us watch him for the thirty minutes that he was on the air and then ask us to give our comments on what we thought the commentary. He was real, he was honest, and I respected what he stood for. Although a lot of people talk about the Watermelon Segment, there was another one that stood out in my mind. That one was called, "People Be Profiling". He talked about people going to the dress stores (didn't have malls back then) and and buying their suits and dresses, pantsuits (for the women) just to wear them to a party one time and then don't wear them anymore. He also talked about people buying new cars and just to show them off. He was a powerful man. And I'm all of 44 years old.

from Diane P. | July 23, 2007 06:13 PM

I want to find this movie in the Hartford, CT area. I hear that it's not in wide release. I hear that it's not showing in San Fran, Oakland, etc. I hear all of that. Someone tell me what I or we can do to get it showing in our respective cities and areas.

from Brenda A. | July 21, 2007 08:01 PM

We had a group of 25 "paying people of color" who had to travel 20 miles to see the movie. This is unfair. Why isn't this movie showing in all theatres instead of Knocked Up and other STUPID movies!

I live in the Akron/Canton, Ohio area and can't find this movie. In which cities has the movie been released?

from Anonymous | July 21, 2007 12:11 PM

I AM FURIOUS, THAT WE CAN NOT FIND THIS MOVIE. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS UP WITH RICHMOND, VA. I HAVE JUST MOVED HERE AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS MOVIE IS NOT PLAYING IN RICHMOND. I GUESS I HAVE TO DRIVE NORTH TO SEE IT.

from Floydean | July 21, 2007 08:10 AM

Once again a movie with black artist has come out and you can not find it in Richmond, VA. What's with the theater people or is it the movie promoters. I have seen all the trailers, I would like to see the movie. This is 2007 face the facts we are here to stay and we spen a lot of money at the movies if the Tyler Perry movies hasn't proven that to you yet. Get on the ball and get the movie out to all the people.

I am pissed that no theaters are playing this movie in the Chicagoland area. I have to travel 15-25 miles to see a BLACK film starring Don Cheadle at that. Are white people that inferior of Blacks? They are so scared that Don will win the OSCAR he so deserves. The movie was about racism and this is racist as hell!

from David J | July 18, 2007 07:02 AM

Tis film was not released in the entire state of Florida! Why?

I would have to say Tom Joyner has the Petey Greene style cause he tells it like it T.I. is

from Anonymous | July 15, 2007 04:46 PM

The film is being released in a limited fashion, so don't worry, I'm sure the film is coming to a theater near you soon. Just give it a week or two.

I live in Phoenix, AZ the 5th largest city in the USA and you don't release the new Don Cheadle film here! If it was the new Kevin Costner movie it would be released here. Oh yeah...that just happened. Point proven! I think you should list the names of theaters that would not show this movie on opening day. Let the people decide to call those theater managers and ask them why?
Don Cheadle is one of the finest actors in the world. You are cheating us by not letting us view his newest work in a timley manner.
Power to the People

from Laurinda | July 15, 2007 01:59 AM

Petey's tell it like it is style will inspire others to step up to the plate, and share some real talk. We must learn from this cat cause he's where it's at.

NO ONE!!

Just a suggestion but the addition of a link to the trailer for this movie would be useful. Reading the comments I find myself wanting to see if only in snippets a bit of the movie.

from Michael Edelin | July 13, 2007 01:32 PM

I grew up in Washington DC. I am 49 years old. When I ws a kid I went to Catholic School. Well somebody had a bright idea to have Petey Greene come to our school (Elementary) to Talk To Us. I don't remember laughing and crying so much at the same time in my life. The man was ahead of his time.It was an experience I'll never forget. He ended with "I'm Petey Greene and I'm Outa Here".

There was no-one like Petey Green then and there's no-one like him now.

from Jason Walker | July 13, 2007 09:00 AM

There are persons who do say what needs to be said, are not allowed on commercial media and definitely not on FOX. YOu have to go to community stations and some public stations to find DJs like that

I'm not so sure anyone has that kind of style anymore, its a lost art.

from Roger J. | July 12, 2007 06:00 PM

Oprah can pretty much say whatever she wants but she's a little too refined to be like Petey. I'd say that Howard Stern definetly has the ability to speak his mind and has the crassness of Petey but he veers too much towards shock and not enough towards interesting conversation. That Fox News guy (can't remember his name), he seems to tell it like it is, even though I don't agree with most of the things he's saying.
