I loved how everyone embraced one another after the show Peety did when Dr. King died - very moving scene that showed that everyone can put aside their differences when it really matter. I also liked Mike Epps small appearances. It was nice to see him in a serious roll even if it was for a short time.
It's a toss-up between the scene when Taraji Henson broke that bottle on Petey's back and when she opened the door after the riots and embraced Petey with a gun.
Whoever wrote that gun scene gets three claps from me. It was so suttle and unexpected and too funny!
if i had to choose ONE favorite scene it would be after the Dr. King murder and the rioting and Petey going on the air and calling for calm. The empty streets following this said it all about the respect from his audience. The distribution of this movie was horrible i do not understand how a movie this goo gets select theaters i live in jacksonville fl of all the theaters they have here ONE theater had this movie and it was in one of the smallest theaters available i was so angry you have all these stupid white movies showing on multiple screens anyway mabey it was something we dont know about but it still makes no sense i will tell as many as i can how great this movie is.
We is South carolina Greenville to be exact see the commercial everyday and cannot see the movie . Ihope it arrives soon or we will be forced to wait for pay per view or the DVD. Being in the business I am anxious to see this great film.
I reside in Chicago and recently had a chance to see this movie. The movie delivered. My wife and I will see it again and buy the video. I did not appreciate how hard we had to work to be able to see this movie. This movie opened not only to very limited screens in Chicago but also in areas where it was clear it would not be as warmly greeted. It reminded me of the premiere of "Waiting To Exhale" when we had to travel to a surrounding suburb because no movie houses orginally carried it in the City when it first came out. Great movie!
Also would you release more close up stills of Tariji from the movie, the costumes and the jewlery were awesome! I suspect some of it was vintage jewlery. Who costumed the movie? And how may I reach the person. I have questions.
I forgot to post my favorite scenes. THere were so many phenomenal great scenes in this movie that I can't focus on any particular ones, but if forced, I have to concur the pool hall scenes were powerful!!! POWERFUL PEOPLE, and the scenes of D.C. after the riots when Martin was murdered. That brought hurt and tears to my eyes, I immediately thought of Obama, but I am determined to not allow that fear to keep me from supporting him. And the scenes with Ms. Henson!!!!!! I couldn't believe that was the same actress from Hustle & Flow!!!! We have got some talent out here PEOPLE that we don't see enough of!!! While viewing teh movie in D.C. (Talk to me" ) they previewed another movie set for release soon, ti involved a country club that had rappers who moved in. ABSOLUTE TRASH AND STUPIDTY. I was embarrassed to have to sit there and watch it. We are smarter than that PEOPLE and we shouldn't except what they throw out to us. IT was only redeemed by the high quality of "TALK TO ME." Howard University was one of the first Black Universities to have their own Radio & TV stations, I think it is time that they started producing quality movies why don't cha!! IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN PEOPLE!!!!! CAUSE H-WOOD IS NOT DOING IT FOR US AND THEY DON'T PLAN ON IT. There is a book I'd like to reference hee that gives you a frame of mind about H-Wood and why it is the way it is. It is entitled "An Emprie of their Own-How the Jews invented Hollywood." This book is encylopedia of the history of Hollywood and the pyschological reasons why it came to be. A must read for people who enjoy film and want to tell our stories for our own people.
Talk to me was so powerful, powerful for our young men out here shooting and killing each other and now they are going after our children!!! WHAT ON EARTH IS THE PROBLEM!!!! AS PETEY SAID NOT ONLY FOR D.C. but for our communities WAKE THE f$$#$ UP! OUR STORIES NEED TO BE TOLD TO HELP THE ONES BEHIND US FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE SEEMINGLY MADE IT.
I'm sorry I forgot to add, there were so many phenomenal scenes to this movie that I can't focus on any particular one, but I would have to say, the pool hall scenes and the scenes dipicting D.C. during the riots with Petey on the Radio, and of course the ones with James Brown at the concert, and Ms. Henson!!!!! I couldn't believe that was the same actress from Hustle & Flow!!!! My GOD we have awesome talent out here that we dont' see enough of! And let me just say this! I went to the movie in D.C. they screened an upcoming movie-comedy before Talk to Me played. It is about a country club where rappers move in. I mean absolutely stupidity. Out and Out TRASH. I was embarrassed to have to sit there and watch it on the screen. There was such a gab between that screening of the trailor and "Talk to ME" that I want to say here and now, we need more movies with the depth and breadth of "Talk to Me". We don't have enough. Somebody please- we need our own studios to produce our own movies. IF NOT NOW! THEN WHEN!! WHEN PEOPLE!!!!!!! HOWARD UNINVERSITY WAS ONE FO THE FIRST UNIVERSITY'S TO HAVE THEIR OWN RADIO STATION AND TV STATION. WHY NOT START PRODUCING MOVIES?!!!!! WHY DON'T CHA! I THINK IT'S TIME, SINCE THOSE IN H-WOOD AREN'T DOING IT.
This movie blew me away! I am an African-American who lives in D.C. I came to D.C. in '74 to Howard Univesity and I remember Petey Greene, but didn't know his history. I'm from N.C.-Raleigh. This movie will become a classic among the greats, Ray, Education of Jane Pittman, Sounder, you name it! Outstanding excellence in theater! Every single actor attached to this project should be nominated, every single one! The message is phenomenal for our young black men who are out here shooting each other and killing each other!!!! STOP THE MADNESS!!! WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG!! AS PETEY WOULD SAY, NOT ONLY FOR D.C. BUT TO ALL OF OUR COMMUNITIES WHERE THE KILLING OF OUR CHILDREN ARE GOING ON. WAKE THE f##$#@ UP! AND MR. CHEADLE! AWESOME ABSOLUTELY!
THIS MOVIE IS GREAT...ACTORS AND SUPPORTING ACTORS TOP SHELF....HAVENT ALMOST CRYED SENCE SEEING RAY.....THESE MOVIES MEAN SOMETHING TO PEOPLE GIVES THIM INSPIRATION TO DO THINGS WHEN THAT BIG WALL IS 15FT TALL ..GO THREW IT AND MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF YOURSELF, NO MATTER WHAT..ONCE AGINE..NOW WAKE YO ASS UP D.C.

Go and see the movie. Make the sacrifice if the movie is not playing in your neighborhood. Support the film by any means necessary. If we make the sacrifice the movie will make money and gain a wider release. I empower you to drive an extra 30 minutes to see the movie.
It's more than worth it.
I like other viewers thought this movie was profound and just an amazing piece of work. I am also unclear on why such a powerful movie was released in selective theatres. I think that is an issue that needs to be adrressed. My favorite part of the movie was when Dewey locked everyone in there offices and put Petey back on the air.
I liked several of the scenes involving Petey and Dewey together. The one that sticks out the most is the scene in which Petey spends the night at Dewey's place. The film is essentially a love story between two men, but both are unable to express their deep affection for each other. Not in a sexual way, but no less powerful.
The closest that anyone comes to expressing their feelings toward the other is the scene at the pool hall when Dewey says that Petey says the things he can't say and that Dewey does the things that Petey can't do. It's so rare to see that kind of bonding between two black men in a film.
The shift from the tension of the brawl between Petey and Nighthawk to the shock of Dr. Martin Luther King's shooting showed all the players' emotional range, and moved the audience from a semi-humorous view of their personal lives to a tragic moment in American history. I felt proud that Petey Greene did what he could to stop the violent expressions of the anger that the people felt by letting them talk to him, allowing a peaceful expression of grief.
I am very disappointed that this highly acclaimed movie in a major market like Chicago is only showing in 3 theaters and they all are located on the north side of the city. I would really like to see this movie but I guess I will have to wait until it is released on video. This is such a shame because I'm sure the African-American community would love to support this important film.
I also was surprised that the film was only showing at one thater in my area, and then in the smallest theater in the Cinema-plex.
I thought the the entire film was outstanding, but one of my favorite scenes. When Vernell went to see Dewey and let him know that Petey missed him. This is a movie I will see again, and purchase the DVD the first day of release.
Talk to me was powerful, funny and very profound, with many scene's that really moved me, the plea to the community after dr. King's assination was so powerful. I'm just saddened that there's not a larger distribution of the film in theater's. Especially here in the DC. Petey's hometown. As a pre teen I recall my grandfather, making all of us grandkids sit still & watch Petey Greene's Washington on WDC 20, right after we were all hyped up, after viewing Roller durby which came on before it...Now I understand why Grandad insisted we watch it, cuz as a kid I didn't understand Petey or his impack on our plight as a people...Please go see it, as I will again. -One luv- Bro. Malcolm
There were so many magic moments in that film. However, I loved the Blue Blazes scene. Don Cheadle
steps on stage and never
lets go. I also loved pool hall scene. There they were
to big, big men on screen lighting it up. Both of those
dudes held their own.
I would have gone to see the film if it was in a theater near me. Instead, it was showing in three theaters far from my urban area. I found that to be quite distressing. I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Just think of the number of people, just like me, who would have gone to see the film if it was showing within our proximity. The areas where the film is showing are areas that do not cater to large numbers of people of color- specifically African-Americans. How can you premiere a film about a black radio legend and not show the film in the areas where people who could really connect with the character and the surrounding events depicted in the film? You all have got to do better. Also, think about this, I rarely go out to the movies- I usually wait on the DVD. This time, I really want to go out to see "Talk To Me" and couldn't unless I drove 30 minutes from my neighborhood. So instead, I went to see "Hairspray". Think of the thousands of people just like me- who rarely go out to the movies- wanted to go out to see "Talk to Me", but changed their minds and went to see something else because the theater locations were not within a reasonable proximity. Is it that you think that just the white folk would appreciate the film? Probably and that's too bad. Your loss.
I really enjoyed this movie. There were lots of memorable scenes, and other have pointed out some. For me it was after the MLK murder and the rioting and Petey going on the air and calling for calm. The empty streets following this said it all about the respect from his audience.
Since I lived in the times that were appearing in the movie, I was touched, again, by the death of Dr. King. But, adding Sam Cooke's "A change is gonna come." topped the scene off as far as emotions are concerned. Great job!
I remembered Petey, but It seemed like he didn't stay on the air that long.
My favorite scene was when Petey told Johnny Carson's audience, keeping it real, he had nothing to talk to them about and walked off the stage. That was beautiful.
I loved this movie. Wish it had a larger distribution. I plan on taking my friends and grown daughters to see it. Word of mouth is the best advertisement and I'm spreading the word!
I loved the movie. Petey is a true American hero that can serve as an example in so many ways both good and bad. Thanks for telling his and Dewey's story.
All black people need to see this movie. Maybe it will help to revive some black pride and unity. I guess that's why it's not showing in many theatres.
Don, you're the man.
Go see this movie. It will change your life. What a wonderful movie about relationships between African American men, restoration and reconciliation. A powerful movie. Go See this movie.
I would really like to see this movie. My husband and I checked the release date to our suprise the move has a relase date of 7/13, well, can you please tell me who stopped the movie from coming to our town. I live in Richmond, Virginia and none of the theaters are playing your movie. My family and a whole group of friends would like to see it as well as support you, but its not here. Please respond and provide me with a clue as to why? Thanks
Best movie I've seen in quite a while. My favorite scene was near the end when Petey and and Dewey meet again at the pool hall and bury the hatchet. There are many memorable scenes in this movie and it should be playing in much wider release than it is. If it was a black buffoon movie it would be easier to find.
When and where will this movie be played in and around Jackson, Ms.? And Why was this movie not released here on its opening date? Is this a sign of hidden racism?

I enjoyed the movie. I liked the way Pety told it like it is. He was from the streets and had a rough edge, but he "kept it real".
