No Apologies

It's almost refreshing, isn't it, when a public figure makes a boneheaded comment and then refuses to apologize for it? That's how I feel about Pete Stark, who was given a chance to say he was sorry about claiming that Republicans were sending sending American soldiers “to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement" and instead stayed on the attack. Day after day we read stories about people apologizing for saying stupid things that they obviously believed when they said them (James Watson, anybody?) You have to respect someone who just says, "Screw you, I know what I said and I'm not the least bit sorry!"

Maybe I just feel that way because I'm such a wuss. The other day I gave a homeless man a dollar and actually thanked him. I suppose if he had vomited on me I would have had to apologize.

I would almost agree with you, if the comments had been made in a manner bearing any remote level of civility. Stark can stand by what he said all he wants, it will not effect the fact that what he said was disrespectful of the office which he holds, disrespectful to the office of the president, and disrespectful to the men and women serving our country overseas.
You can disagree with the war all you want...and by god vote against it if need be. When you procliam to the world that our country is in a war "for the President's amusement" you are simply insulting anyone who has sworn an oath to this country...including yourself...by assuming that the Executive branch of this government is ALONE in the call to conflict. Fueling the fires of discontent amongst the civilians in this country who don't bother themselves to collect information on their own, and accept comments such as this at face value...is nothing but rabble-rousing. I for one thought we were above that in this age...clearly I was wrong.
