Network Relations

To respond to FourTeller...

For the most part, I feel I have a terrific relationship with NBC. There is a lot of give and take and clearly the success of the series is a function of the successful working relationship we enjoy. I consider a lot of the people at the network to be friends and know that they are as passionate about the show as I am. Working as fast as we do, and when you juggle as many shows as a network executive must, there are inevitable disagreements and disappointments, but they are few and far between.

i was so disappointed medium wasn't there in september. i was anxiously waiting for it. i hope nbc realizes how many passionate fans this show has. it doesn't seem to get the same publicity in the media as other shows, which worries me. the quality of the show is excellent. it is appointment tv for me. i never miss an episode!

why did the show start so late in the season? i thought i was going mad i begn thinking that the episodes had been moved to lifetime, but really they were just reruns. and i didnt see much hype about this episode, like i idnt see many adds for it on tv beforhand, was that jsut me?

it was not just you gina. i am actually annoyed -- i had no idea it would premiere today and would have missed it but someone mentioned it on a discussion board online and that's how i knew!!

I agree, it's the only tv I watch at all.... I actually make time to watch it. As long as this show is on, I will never work another Wednesday night!
Is there a reason it doesn't get quite as much publicity as other shows? There are so many other shows out there that are talked about much more and, quite frankly, I regard them as crap (I'm actually referring to shows on other networks). Medium should really be getting the credit it deserves!

It's true though, I saw maybe one commercial for it. I had to search (and anxiously find tv guide every week) to find out just when exactly it would be on.

How long will this blog be available to view and is there a way to save and send comments? My mom is a big fan too. I MUST go to bed, I teach little ones who have at least a 3 hour jump on sleep. It will be a struggle tomorrow but well worth it. Thanks again for a great start to a new season. What a great, involved, inspired writer you are to do this!

On why NBC was so late getting Medium out of the gate and changing the time slot, I read that the network was counting on its faithful fans finding the show whenever/wherever it reappeared and wanted to give the freshmen series greater exposure during premiere season.

Time will tell if that was indeed the correct strategy - I personally would have used Medium as a promotional vehicle for the new shows rather than letting them out on their own, especially since I don't regularly watch watch anything else on NBC prime time.

You also asked about adding more diversity to the show. I did as well and GGC did not answer that question. I would love to talk about this fine TV show with someone at work, but my favorite co-workers are turned off by the absence of African-Americans particularly. Maybe we will see a change for the better this season.

I have been waiting and might I add impatiently for the season premier. It was annoying that Network executives decided to change the day. I hope they will not continue to move the show. I really hate when networks do that. Keep giving us good family oriented stories to watch Mr Caron!! We need more shows like this on TV!!
