Selecting Writers...

Many of our writers have been on the show for years: Dawn DeNoon came on at the beginning; Jon Greene came year 2; Amanda Green came year three (she used to be a shrink for SVU, that's why it seems so real -- just like I wrote ER for the first seven years and I'm a doctor); Patrick Harbinson came year three. We have two new writers: Paul Grellong, who's a playwright and Ali Intrieri who used to be our researcher. And... Judi McCreary came back after four years (she wrote Execution and Picque). We're all very close and good friends, hang out and talk SVU all the time. To write for SVU you gotta have a great imagination; write fantastic dialog; do great research; and have a passion for detail. Oh, Ted Kotcheff is the head director in New York where we shoot the show (the writers live in LA). You may know Ted as the director of First Blood and North Dallas Forty and Weekend at Bernies. Great movies. So we've got a great group.

No offense but I think it's time to get new writers. Or new head writer. SVU needs fresh ideas!

Which writer is responsible for the weird anti-Environmentalist bullshit? In general, Law & Order is so good about airing multiple sides of an issue. But last night's episode let pass, without comment, such doozies as the FBI lady (Star) deadpan claiming that EDGE (er, Earth First!) was the greatest domestic terrorist threat... (AND admitting in another breath, but again, without pause for the audience to digest it, that they've injured NO ONE.) You guys showed gruesome bombing photos of... SUVs! and construction sites!! Um... where was the voice of reason, the voice of ... hey guys, these people are making a real point, AND they're destroying highly symbolic PROPERTY, not lives. Where was Munch?

I didn't mind that the character of the informant's boyfriend as a dull, rhetoric-spouting environmentalist -- sure, there's really some foks like that. But not ALL of them. There wasn't a single sympathetic or even sensible Environmentalist on the entire show! That's awfully strange, since actually most Americans sympathize with the aims of the Environmentalists (if not their tactics).

What's up with that, huh? Who got ahold of the script?

I'm trying to contact Ice-T. Tell him I was his record rep. in Chicago.

Am I the only one that sees this. There is a guy or girl right behind Munch with their head turned. Looks like they are running into Munch.

It really really late here I just want to know what is up with that character behind Munch with his/her head turned? Please answer I need to get to bed.

Yes, am wondering about Alex Cabot as well.

Who is that behind MUNCH in the cast photo?

Posted by Teresa September 19, 2006

Hi, Neal-
The writing throughout the entire franchise is superb. It always feels as if it's written with an inside edge that could only come from someone with a background in law enforcement. How much does Dick Wolf interact with the writers? This dialogue is fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Are we going to see any follow-up to the episode "Fault"? Or at least deal with the personal implications? And what kind of cases are we going to be dealing with in the upcoming season? Anything out of the ordinary?

If you had a nickel for everytime someone hit you up to be on/write for the show, would you ever have to work again in life?

I'm guessing no.

How annoying.

How is Mariska coping with the death of her Dad? Please give her my best. Thank you

Who is that behind Munch in the cast photo above?

Posted by teresa September 19, 2006

The writers are so absolutely top notch I hope you gave them all raises this year so they will keep up the fabulous work!!!!!!

I think you do an episode or two with Alex Cabot. I liked the storyline and I liked seeing her in other things Mr & Mrs. Smith) It would be great to do a follow up episode with her.

NEW SHOW

How do you go about pitching a new show to Dick Wolf/NBC?

Posted by Mike Scott September 19, 2006

Getting my Master's in Criminal Justice. I am also an actor. Is it possible to visit the set?

Posted by terri September 19, 2006

Who is the behind Munch in the photo of the cast?

Posted by teresa September 19, 2006

The M.E. and Craigen should get together or something.. haha now THAT would be interesting. I'm just kidding though

Posted by Cassie September 19, 2006

Did not know that you wrote for ER (which happens to be my second favorite show. I guess I just like your stuff. Perhaps you should become an author, I have a feeling that I would read your books!

Posted by Miss September 19, 2006

I would be very interestet in being a part of the show!
Since you are all into hiring medical people I'm a Nurse Practitioner and a certified Sexual Assult Examiner.

Posted by Jill September 19, 2006

Would you ever be allowed to have a random cameo on the show? Like one of those people who all of a sudden hands the Captain a file and gets like one line?

Posted by Cassie September 19, 2006

Shalom Neal:

Thank you

How is Mariska? Is she back at work?

Posted by terri September 19, 2006

How does one go about getting a part on the show?? On any of the Law and Orders for that matter??

Posted by Anonymous September 19, 2006

Wow, that sounds like tons of fun. I hope someday I will be able to be a part of such a great force.

Thank you for the advice. :) I take your words to heart and to head.

Not to mention you guys have done a great job!

How long does it take to film an episode?

Posted by Cassie September 19, 2006

You wrote ER? That's crazy. Also, to be fair, 'Weekend At Bernies' isn't THAT great of a movie. Nonetheless, SVU is the superior Law And Order show.

what's the connection between oz and the l&o franchise? so many actors from oz have appeared on a l&o show. it's like a game in my household.

Posted by tyra September 19, 2006
