Practice Makes Perfect

I've done something good! On our way out of Las Vegas, I saved the lives of two people! I stopped time right before the car exploded and dragged them to safety. They were pretty heavy. Need to level up my strength. (;´ρ`)

I did seem to level up my time freezing though. All that practice paid off. I can freeze time for 1 minute pretty comfortably. With more practice, maybe I can master it and stop time for even longer!

I guess the lady in the car wasn't the cheerleader. She didn't have any pom poms. Too bad. If she was the cheerleader we would've saved the world, according to future me via Peter.

The man I saved was tall and black. He seemed very serious. He didn't even smile. His son seemed nice but he didn't smile either. Being a hero is a very thankless job but at least they could smile (^.^) His son seemed to know about 9th Wonders. Is it a popular comic book?

At least we're on the road again finally getting back to our mission. I guess we have two missions now. Cheerleader then New York. It's a pretty long ride. So much desert. Where are the Jawa's? Maybe there is a Cantina on the way.

We're right now on Highway 40 which is also Route 66. Ka-chow! (*´ο`*)=3 sigh. I should've brought my PSP with me. Could've watched some movies. Pixar stuff is great but nothing compares to Miyazaki films. My favorite is Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Do Americans watch Miyazaki films?

I think you guys are right. I should definitely get a Katana. It's the way to go. (^o^)==[=======/

I can name it 正宗 (masamune) or maybe come up with my own like 時空刀 (jikuutou). Do you guys have ideas for names?

Hey Hiro when you are finished in America you should come to Australia, we have the best beaches, we also are a sister city with Miura, Japan and most of our schools have Japanese for a language class. but my school doesn't and thats just crap but I am still learning Japanese, hehe i already know both the alphabets!!

I do watch Miyazaki films. I love them. The music from Laputa is amazing, especially the beginning. I love all the other movies and music too. Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite for the animation, but the story for Spirited Away has the best story.

Yes, Americans (like me at least) love Miyazaki! My favorite was Spirited Away, at least until Howl's Moving Castle. I didn't know it could get better, but he's just keeps putting the good ones out and they get better each time!
I'm very sorry about Charlie. You two seem to get along really well.

*blush* first of all i posted this on the wrong blog inadvertantly and can't delete it. its on the "New York or Bust" one. sumimasen.

What that waitress told you was true, i hope it built your confidence. And i'm sorry you had to learn the hard way that you couldn't save her or change the past.

I'm hardly an expert on hereos. But, I think you're on the right track. Of all the heroes you're encountering , your background in the traditional manga may have taught you more than you give yourself credit for. I like that you are honorable and "stick to your guns" as we in America say. Meaning, you stand up for what you believe in.

And on a lighter note, yes many of us here in the US do watch Miyazaki films. We are a bit angry that Disney got the deal for the domestic distribution right, fearing they will somehow alter the original meaning through releasing only dubbed versions. But I think Miyazaki was smart enough to make a clause that no one could change the orignal content. So die hard fans like me, can watch sub-titled versions of his masterpieces. I'd rather watch a Miyazaki work raw, no subtitles than a dub. I'm that much of a snob.

Not to slam my own countries voice actors, but even the best of them can't line up rhetoric that makes sense with the movements of the original animated character's mouths. Dubs just come off bad. Whiners who can't read and watch at the same time should practice. Its not that hard.

BTW, which Miyazaki film is your favorite, Hiro? Its a hard decision to pick one, for me at least. I loved "Hime Mononoke" but "Totoro" is such a classic and then came Howl and his Castle. Miyazaki is just too good to pick one! Its like asking me to pick my favorite Star Wars movie.

On the subject of Miyazaki, is there manga for any of his stuff? I used to do the US convention circuits, but can't now due to my health.

How are you feeding your anime fix in between being a hero? or do you even have time? It was pretty cool that some of Isaac's art including that Comic book you stole earlier on, was done in the manga style.

Oh well, I'll quit harrassing you with my anime addiction. You have more important things to do like saving the world.

Good luck. I'm super happy you get a sword, i think that is a weapon of honor, unlike a gun. And a dragon...i can't begin to express my jealousy about that.

Hiro-san! Don't be discouraged, there are Miyazaki fans in America, especially with the release of Howl's Moving Castle (what's the way to get Americans to watch something? Get Christian Bale to do a voice...). I love that you hold fast to Laputa -- it's been one of my favorites for ages.
You're possibly the first person I've ever heard of who is a fan of D&D, Final Fantasy, Star Trek, Miyazaki, X-Men, Back to the Future, Star Wars, and owns (and misses!) game systems. You officially rock.

Hiro, you are awesome...I love Miyazaki is awesome love all of his films, like Spirited Away has such great display of colors and Nassica rocks...oh and Howls Moving Castle is my all time favorite right now....My advice to you is to Meditate on your quest and balance out your power, realize that if you loose control and become irritated than your inner core dissipitates. Hello Hiro,

I once wrote a story about a time mage as part of a collaborative fiction effort for a Final Fantasy fansite, the project was titled "Anime University" (long lost to the aether). The particular character had some abilities in common with the ones you claim.

He had the ability to "Return/Rewind" to a particular time, but had to have previously lived that time first, and only his "memory" of the future events was the difference. Your ability is more like Teleportation in four dimensions (three plus time), the "Return" label of Final Fantasy fame isn't quite accurate.

He also possessed "Time Freeze", though I think more akin to "Time Stop" of D&D. Consider that you aren't actually stopping time, just slowing it down (or speeding yourself up) greatly. If it had truly stopped, light wouldn't move and you would be unable to see.

The point of this is, you need to learn new time "spells":

Stop - You greatly slow time for an object or creature so that it appears to stop moving.
Remove - You stop time for an object or creature, causing it to CEASE to exist.
Unremove - You return time to an object or creature you previously removed it from, causing it to spring back into being, possibly weeks later.
Echo - You cut through the fabric of space-time to bring something from the past into the present. (Closely linked to the Unremove power)
Rewind - Like the Prince of Persia, you watch time unfold backwards until you see a point where you wish to start moving forwards again.

Stopping time (as per "remove", above), rather than slowing it an infinite amount, would be the ultimate pinnacle of your powers. To achieve that pinnacle, you would first need to learn to target things with your power other than yourself. Perhaps dropping a ball and learning to slow it without slowing anything else? You could learn to shape this ability, allowing you to create solid walls of slowed air that would be able to shield you from bullets, concussive blasts or anything that needs to pass through air.

I envision the complete scope of time powers thusly:

Origato! This si the real Hiro. I finally got to a place where I can post from. I'd like to set a few things straight here:

Miyazaki is the greatest, and a Katana would make you a regular Mifune, just less scruffy. You should name the blade Regret, or a Japanese word of similar meaning. A tool of last resort, and reminder of things that cannot be changed or forgotten. Syler will get what's coming to him!

Not only they are somewhat difficult to understand, they are mysterious by nature. So mysterious, that not even science has been able to cope with them properly. In addition, Hiro, Honor is the most important quality on a real Hero...

As for naming your sword, I will say this... the sword is an extension of a warrior's soul, an extension of their body and a reflection of their personality. I will suggest a name that goes with your ability and your personality... Eternal Charlie in Japanese would be a good name. No matter where your power takes you, time and space have no boundaries for you, thus the Eternal part of the name. Now I do not think that I need to explain Charlie, except that she always is with you and that she is part of you.

Love the show, and I have a suspicion that Hiro will be the crucial hero to the story. Everyone is focusing on the cheerleader (and who wouldn't?!?), but Hiro is the glue. I also wonder what events in his time travels cause him to undergo such a transformation from the sweet bumbling office worker, to the sword wielding hero in black we see on the subway. That could be a series of its own, the origins of Hiro's transformation. Masamune did rock, but in Cloud's hands it was nothing special. Remember Cloud was the hero.

Yeah, name it "Vengeance of Charlie" or something like that preferrably in japanese. I liked that idea. But I still think the right Wakizashi is the way for you to go - it's more versatile. You don't wanna be stuck in a nook of time with a katana that you don't have room to use cause it's too long mate, take it from me.

You know, when you visit the past it's like when you jump out of the water where you are swimming. When you go back you make a BIG splash based on what you did up there so be careful what you do allright?

Hiro you rock!!! If the heroes have these special powers due to some type of tumor or something in the brain, does this mean you have one too? Why didn't Charlie know that you gave her the book? Since Peter can temporarally absorb the powers of others, is he the one who will stop the bomb from exploding and save the world? He would need the cheerleader, the radioactive man, Nikki's husband, and his brother to pull it off probably... Is that why you came to him in the subway? Are the two marks on some of the heroes necks some kind of tracking device or something put there by Claires father? Don't let him get a hold of you Hiro, I don't trust him, he is a lot more than just a over protective father. What agency for the government does he work for anyway? The katana is an awsome weapon, I am a collector of them and I will let you use one of mine no problem! Just promise me that you will give Sylar an attitude adjustment with it! Ha, Ha. As far as a name goes I am sure you will find one that is approperiate. I love movies too... have you ever seen Duel to the Death? It is one of the best. The more I think of it, the more it comes back to one thing. Frog, it's all about Frog. Honor, Courage, Morality, Courtesy, Honesty, Loyalty, and Virtue. These are the characteristics of a Hero. That's the groove, I think.

I think your swords name should be after Okita Soji's sword Kikuichi-monji, well if you believe he weilded the Kikuichi-monji. A bit long but you could just call it Kikuichi. I also have another Katana's name from a dungeons and dragons character I played Caphivor. Its an Elven name.

Oh and yes, some of us do watch Miyazaki films, my favorit is also castle in the sky. ^_^ Do you also watch Rurouni Kenshin, or Peacemaker Kuragone? I just finished watching D.N.Angel. I was wondering can you suggest some other anime that aren't out in America yet? I really love anime, but every monday I am watching and cheering on the Hiro, I mean Hero. ^_^ But just remember one thing. Hero's live as the world should be, to show the world what it can be.

The katana is such a beautiful weapon, so uniquely Japanese...I wish you success at mastering it. Hiro, while I do agree with you that a sword is very cool, I must ask that you consider a few things about it. Firstly, you must consider how many actual super heroes out there use weapons. Batman abhors the use of violence. Superman doesn't need weapons. Spider-Man doesn't use them. If you do choose to get a weapon, that weapon should be used only for defense, never for attack. A true hero seeks to preserve all life, even that of his enemy. Violence and aggression make you like that which you strive to oppose. If you do decide to get a sword, consider carefully the consequences before you draw it. When you have a weapon, the temptation to use it can be overwhelming, but always respond with an appropriate amount of force.

As for names, I think you should choose something that represents your desire to protect rather than to fight. Jikuu no Hogosha, perhaps -- Time's Defender -- because that's what you are, and such a sword would be an extension of your will. But like Spider-Man and Batman, a super hero generally forges their own weapon. It's not just something you can buy at the store. How will you forge yours?

I think a Katana is the PERFECT thing for you. I also believe that any great sword deserves a name, and whatever you choose will be what it's meant to be. Just be careful. Well anyway, I don't know if you've watched Rurouni Kenshin, but he has a reverse blade sword (I don't remember if he named it), but you could name your katana something to that effect. A sword that is meant to protect and not meant to kill (even though it can). Anyway, hope all goes well.

Name of the blade, if it is significant, then it needs a name. Also when you use a weapon like that, usually its to kill. If you have a sword be prepared to use it, and all that implies.

Konichi Wa Hiro! You should name your katana "Hiromitsu". According to wikipedia.com, he was a swordsmith in the 14th century Japan, and was a pupil of the great Masamune. Just a thought ... ;)

Since you like DBZ and end up with the whole "Future Trunks Look" (which I very much approve), I am unsure if you NEED a heroic name (for either you or your sword). After all, being named Hiro after Hiroshima makes you powerful enough. Of all things, I am sure that everything will work out for you. Be strong, you seem to be the only one who knows the gravity of being a true hero.

Let a H.S student answer your question, Daavid. Just like I said in the last blog (before it got WIPED) the script writers are really bad at writing a storyline with a time traveling character. They just don't understand the works of time travel. There's no way that Charlie could get a Japanese phrase book from anyone else on her birthday besides Hiro, hence she would recognize Hiro six months later. If you think about things in general, the scriptwriters messed up the whole thing and created a paradox. Either that or The Haitian wiped her memory of Hiro (which I doubt. I'm a down-to-ground literal sensed guy, and the Haitian makes no sense in this particular case.) Oh well. They still drove their point home with that sad episode.

Allright. So here's a question. Why doesn't Charlie recognize Hiro when Hiro first meets her the day she dies? I thought at first it might be because the writers are going with the version of time-travel in which the act of travelling back does the changing, and thus, Charlie hadn't met Hiro in the past until we see Hiro jump. But Charlie tells Hiro that she got a Japanese phrasebook for her birthday six months ago *before* Hiro jumps, and that's just what Hiro gives her in the past. Hence Charlie had already met Hiro when Hiro first meets her. Hence Charlie should recognize him. Oh, well.

Yay Katana, \(^.^)/ you should name it Dosojin, god of roads to represent your journey. That one has a nice ring to it.

If not you could go with Amida or Thanatos. Both are gods of death, good names for swords.

I also found Shoki, the god of justice. As a hero justice is a good thing to represent. (though I think that one is Chinese, not Japanese. I just went on Google to look for names.)

But maybe you should just find a name that suits how you get it. Future you hasn't told you how you get it yet. It might be important.

Well whatever you name it I'm sure it will be awesome.

you have to be my favorite hero of all time, and anyone who loveo Crono as much as you do, is #1 in my book! the sword name? Well, Masamune was frogs sword, and you'd have to have the hero medal to use it anyways. maybe you could call it the rainbowsword, after Crono's most powerful weapon, or mayeb Murasame, the masamune's sister blade. maybe you should tell everyone who knows about your powers to ask future you what you named it? if they happen to see him/you. I worry about Ando though, as he may not be able to protect himself. i hope you can do a good job of making sure he's safe! or maybe you could name your sword Hero. i think it's fitting!

and i wouldn't worry too much about finding the cheerleader. if you came from the future to tell peter about it, there must be a future! so in a way you've already won! but don't get lazy, make sure you are doing all the right things, and working hard! just know that destiny is on your side, and you will find what you're looking for!

I think you should grow out your hair in the future, and wield not just a katana but some throwing stars as well. It just might come in handy. Ah you bring up a good point about the tall black guy. The fact that he's not as pleased with your company could mean he's got something to hide. When you basically save someone's life and they avoid you, it's time to really question THEIR motives rather than your own. You are on the right path. Keep trusting your instincts and try to get to know more about that boy. He could be the key to your next path.
Also, the training idea suggested by Mlgonza is a good consideration. Just avoid using those powers in public unless it's either an emergency or until you've gained more control over them.

Hayao Miyazaki film are the best. My personal favorites are Spirited Away, The Last Unicorn (its old school), My Neighbor ToToRo, KiKi's Delivery Service, Nausicca and the Valley of the Wind, and of course Castle in the Sky. Actually I love manga. My favorite lately has been Full Metal Alchemist, But I still find myself going back over Neon Genesis: Evangelion. There is something addictive about it. When I first seen Heroes, it kind of reminded me of Manga. Unlike our American animation where it seems everyone is a superhero, Manga isn't like that at all. Take Visions of Escaflowne for instance where Van Fanel doesn't even want to be a hero, he just wants revenge for his village being burned down, then he meet people along the way the start to belive in him and then he starts to believe in himself and that's what makes him a hero. So good work Hiro. Can't wait to see the next episode.

Hey Hiro,

Congrats on your leveling ^_^ ! This is just the beginning of your training.

One minute time freeze is good but how long does it take you to rejuvenate before you can freeze time again for another 1 minute?

This is another exercise that I recommend you must work on. This conditioning will give you the ability to chain time freezes simutaneously creating a longer time freeze combo for a greater effect. Work on freezing time for a minute and then stoping but not being tired at all and freeze it again immediately after you release it. See how many combos you can come up with before you get tired and then try to increase that number over a small interval break.

Also while doing this you must alternate between time freeze combos and increasing your time frame. Your next goal will to increase your time by 30 secs and continue to do so until you hit the goal of 5 mins for this weeks training.

Being able to train hard like this will give you the abilty to time freeze 5 min chain combos back to back creating a 30 minute time freeze super move if you can successfully chain 5 in a row. A lot can be done in 30 minutes ^_^.

Your last and final exercise for the week is to learn how to manipulate certain items in the time you freeze. Throw a item in the air freeze time around you and just make the item fall while everything else is still frozen. This will give you the ability to manipulate projectiles and objects to benefit your abilities on the battle field when you counter villains.

Sorry I know this is alot of homework but with hard work not only do you increase your chances of staying alive you increase others chances of not dying. So please work as hard as your favorite anime, video main character, special movie super star would ^_^ !

Last but not least I see you were looking for a blade name for your future Katana.

Since your mind has been on your future katana I think its time to bring this topic up to you again.

You seem to have access to the internet whether its a internet pit stop, a internet cafe, a mobile device with the internet, ect. The next time you get to another computer you need to look up the worlds greatest swords man, the worlds greatest fighters, and the worlds strongest men, and the worlds most acrobatic trainers in the history of the world.

Once you locate these individuals print out the pictures or focus on that picture and time frame. You will be able to travel to that destination.

You have the ability to learn from the greatest combat legends in the history of time. Once you gather enough information that should be your long term goal.

So then you wouldn't need super stength Hero will grow strong from hard work and traing like Rock Lee in Naruto. ^_^

Sorry for the long book Hiro but if it wasn't important I wouldn't have written it. This information can turn you into the worlds greatest Hereo and make your journeys easier. Good Luck!

On your advice I watched Howl's Moving Castle. What a beautiful film! Thanks for the recommendation. Is there any kind of music to listen to to send you good karmic vibes? I listened to some Früvous and thought happy thoughts in your direction. I'm so excited for you to come to New York my heart is in my stomach. It's not every day you get to meet someone you so greatly admire. There's one thing I don't understand though... Why would someone like Hiro finish last in the class? That makes no sense to me. Perhaps things are different for you, but in my experience, all the RPGs were played behind the closed doors of the gifted program, and we certainly weren't at the bottom of the class. Personally, Masamune is an overused name for a katana isn't it? It keeps reminding me of Frog getting the Masamune in Chrono Trigger hehe. I suggest a better name-one can remember and unique! Something like Tsugaru or something like it. Tsugaru sounds fitting, but that is up to you. It is your sword after all!

Ever played Katamari Damashi? It is highly addicting and the songs are catchy. I always dance to this song, it's called Katamari on the Rocks (Main theme song)

Hey Hiro writing you from Hawaii.
I've been thinking about your importance regarding the obliteration of NYC. You can stop time right? Claire, the cheerleader is like Wolverine, able to heal and Peter can fly? Matt reads minds, DL phases like Shadowcat, Nikki-Jessica has super strength, Micah may be like Magneto (?), and Nathan is basically Cannonball from New Mutants. So okay picture this. Matt picks out the culprit/culprits w/the nuclear device. However too late. So you freeze time. By this time you are able to selectively freeze parts of that time. You enable Nikki-Jessica to throw Claire into the sky with the bomb as it's frozen in mid detonation (maybe a split second after it goes off so a small fireball). Nathan or Peter zoom up to catch Claire as she lets go of the explosion. Micah manipulates machinery/metal around him to create a barrier to the blast in the atmosphere and DL phases all the Heroes inside the shelter. Yeah it sounds far fetched but stuff like that happens in X-Men and X-Factor.

Throw the cheerleader, save the city.

Oh...I love 時空刀 as a name. So fitting. ^-^ 雷切 would be a cool name, too - the alternate name to Hatake Kakashi's very own Ninjutsu in the Anime/Manga, Naruto. But I believe 時空刀 beats it by a long shot.

That's so awesome that you got such a great ability to freeze time! You really are a hero. I wish I had a super like yours (if I got that, I would use it for... you know we all have got some part of our mind telling us to do something not quite right.)
Anyway, is waffle your favorite american food, and all you eat since you've got here? You better slow down; otherwise you'll gain weight so fast! lol (You don't wanna be on the "Biggest Losers".)
Well, speaking of the name of the sword, 時空刀 could be too ordinary. I mean, I've heard it somewhere I don't know specifically. But, why is it a sword? Is it because you are Japanese? I think not many heroes use a sword as their weapon, but is it needed to be? Maybe because you cannot use a firearm when you freeze time--bullet can't move except you do it, but maybe you can cut things with a sword by just swinging it. I don't know.
Anyway, I hope your journey turns out successfully!

If you think you need to get better at dealing with English, you have to try harder. Do you think it takes a lot of time to do it? Don't worry. You and time are bestfriends. You will master English before Ando-kun knows. Use your time or freeze it to study English!

-- maybe you're joking w/ this question (I hope so). There's a HUGE difference between a comic book and a manual. The graphic depiction of expressions and gestures make this almost the perfect medium for learning a foreign language. My mother (schooled in Germany before it became common practice to include other languages) taught herself English by reading comic books. I'm happy to see it's helping Hiro too.

Miyazaki is the best filmmaker of animation hands down. I love Pixar too, but Miyazaki's films are more worldly. If I were to name your sword Hiro, it would probaby be "Chi." Who knows what powers behold the sword since you will wield it.

Way to go, Hiro-kun. NOW, you're a true hero. You put your own life at risk to save other people in need. I don't know what that black guy or his son's problem was. Maybe they had something on their minds.

You can't expect to save the Cheerleader on your first rescue attempt, Hiro-kun. Still, it's good to know you're getting in some practice. When you finally do get to whereever the Cheerleader is, you'll be ready to save her, or at least help save her. BTW, no Jawas in the Nevada Desert, dude. This isn't Tatooine, remember? Best way to "level" up your strength is to lift weights, or else continue to lug people out of danger like you did here. One way or the other, you'll be getting into shape.

So, Hiro-kun's "Gettin' his Kicks on Route 66," huh? It's an obscure reference to a famous jazz song sung by a man named Nat "King" Cole. Don't worry about it. Route 66 is, by and large, the fastest way to cross the country that you'll ever find. Stick to it, if you can.

Miyazaki, hmm? My daughter really loves his "Panda kopanda" series. Other than that, I really couldn't say if I've watched anything of his or not. I've mostly been interested in stuff by Rumiko Takahashi. You know: Ranma, Inuyasha. Things like that. It makes for good TV and it's really easy to get into. As for 9th Wonders, I'm afraid that's never been my favorite. I'll have to admit I've been a regular fan of Spider-man's, like you, but 9th Wonders isn't one of the books that's been on my reading list. Sounds interesting, though.

If you're intent on naming your sword, when you get one, I'd go with something original. "Jikuutou." Hmm. I had to run that one through my Japanese-English Dictionary. Jikuu=Space-Time and Tou=Freeze or Sickle. So, one way or the other, in English, it would be either "The Space-Time Sickle" or "the Space-Time Freezer," both of which, in my opinion, are appropriate in your case. I've never been great with naming swords, so go with *your* creation. That one seems good anyway.

As for your "heroic path," I'm just glad you're on a path that makes you happy. As for Diners having waffles, well, I'm pretty sure they all do, so take care and don't gorge yourself too much, okay?

I have a couple of suggestions for your katana's name, Hiro. All of these are based on things you've mentioned in your blog so far.

明日暗夜 (Ashita Anya - Tomorrow's Dark Night) For the non-Japanese speaking folks reading this, the characters double up nicely to a rough translation of the start of the Green Lantern oath. (brightest day, darkest/blackest night)

皆既日食 - (Kaiki Nisshoku - Solar Eclipse) You mentioned an eclipse a while back when your blog became active and your powers started, so this strikes me as highly appropriate. Has the added bonus of sounding good in either language!

英雄之道(Eiyuu no Michi - Hero's Path) 'Nuff said.

Congrats! for saving those people you gain 500xp which is great because that lvls you! so role your d4 for hit points, maybe now you could take that punch (lucky for you it was subdual dmg). role high, because your con is kinda low.
when you hit 3rd lvl i recommend the exotic weapon proficiency bastardsword (seeing that in dnd a kantana is equivilient to a masterwork bastardsword) so you dont suffer the -4 in combat.

Yes. Americans watch Miyazaki films. In fact a coule of months ago there was an entire week dedicated to his films on AMC network. One of my favorites is Princess Monoke and/or Spirited Away.

Anyways maybe you should name your katana Clockwork...or something simulair...definatly something relating to your powers I think.

Do you eve know how to WIELD a katana? I've taken martial arts and I know using a katana takes lots of practice.

Traditionally, Japanese swordsmiths were renown artisans and like all artist, you'd name your finest works. Although some are just named after the smith himself, like Masamune which was the name of probably the most famous and finest swordsmith in Japanese history.

In the subject of names again how about "爆弾止める" (Bakudantomeru- "Bombstopping"). Just thinking out loud.

you are the coolest of all the heros in my perspective.

Any way for your katana I would reccomend a name of meaning such as

kijuukikuchibashi: yes a long name but it means cranes beak as in the novels with all of those paper cranes and the beak its only defence.

the Hiroatizer: a weird name but it would make the villans chuckle long enough for you to stop time and dispatch them.

hitotoki: means time in Japenese

Name your sword "Musashi's Legacy", after your country's greatest swordsman of record!

Maybe this journey of yours will be much like that anime from the 1980's called "Genesis Climber Mospeada". Do you remember Mospeada, Hiro? Stick Bernard (they called him Scott in the USA) travelled with his skeptical friend Ray (like Ando!) and along the way, one by one, they would get more people. Finally they had a small army of people, and they all travelled to "Reflex Point" to take out the Invid Hive.

There seems to be a major fascination with your sword and naming it. Let me introduce you to a computer game called "Fable" where a young boy with a destiny is trained in a Hero's Guild. As this Hero progresses in age he can choose to do either evil or good deeds--that is the option of choice in the game (in the form of quests). Evil deeds will eventually change his appearance into a demon. Good deeds will gain the trust of the people. Many melee weapons are available: some are imbued, some can be bought...but the best weapons must be earned and can never be traded. The strongest melee weapon is The Sword of Aeons (you'll need to do a evil deed to keep this sword) or you throw it away to eventually earn Avo's Tear (exactly the same as The Sword of Aeons, but requires additional exploration and cheat references to obtain). While Masamune and Jikuuto are very good names, have you considered Western naming schemes?

Books such as The Lord of the Rings give some excellent examples of Western swordnames, such as Glamdring, the elvish sword carried by Gandalf the Grey.

Another good technique is simply combining two words - one grandiose, one descriptive of a swordfighting action. For example: Worldcleaver, Foehammer or Darkslayer. Or something maybe more hopeful sounding, such as Lightbringer or Truthfinder.

Katana would be the way to go, but it is a heavier sword(why I haven't used it much, two-handers limit my defense), cuts and thrusts though which makes up for it, and if made right it can cut through most things.

Congradulations on your first hero work. I'm sure you're destined for more and greater.

Miyazaki films are actually quite popular in some places in America. My little cousin even saw Spirited Away, great film. I still prefer Princess Mononoke, and love Ashikata's story of trying to heal his curse, but realizing he needs to save the forest and the city.

First off... Miyazaki!! Wonderful! This is actually a new find for me, one I might never have watched on my own, if not for a recent road trip from Texas to Colorado. One in our group brought along Spirited Away, which I didn't care to watch (because it was animated), BUT... I'm so glad I did. It was beautiful! One of the best movies I've seen in forever.

About the man and his son, please don't let it bother you too much. I'm sure they were just shaken up. I know how you feel though, it's disheartening when people don't smile. I bet more people smile in your wake than you realize.

oh, as for the katana... I always thought Hecatomb would be a good name for a sword. (at least I think that's an original name, or maybe I saw it or read it somewhere years ago lol)

oh yeah, and the waffles.. have you tried cinnamon apple? Soooo good.

I am very proud of you. you are developing into a great hero. Saving lives is a great accomplishment, especially that you had to push yourself to do so. nothing is supposed to come easy, especially saving a life, so you have already shown your courage and strength in doing so.
do not worry about the two that did not smile. very few will smile if they were close to death, and had no control over the situation. Sometimes they may wonder right after being saved,"what if he hadn't been there." Just thinking this may cause a sort of sorrow toward a tragedy that could have been.

And I have a suggestion for name for your sword. how does Kmoriken sound to you.

Miyazaki films are great! I just watched Nausica a few days ago with a friend of mine. I've also seen Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, and Howl's Moving Castle. I got to see Howl's Moving Castle in the theater, actually.

Have you seen Last Exile? It's not Miyazaki, but it's my favorite anime right now.

Your sword definitely needs a name, but don't worry too much about what you'll name it. I think the name will become apparent to you when you finally get it.

And, about people smiling and thinking you, just remember, you can only control your own actions; you can't control what others do. Also, a hero doesn't do things for the praise of others. Ideally, a hero does things because they are Good. Besides, you never know what's going on in people's lives; maybe that guy and his son were having a bad day for some reason. Perhaps there was something really important on his mind.

Well, I don't know Japanese, so I can't help you with sword names, but I can give you some English sword names that I've heard, but I don't know if they'll fit for a Katana...

We watch Miyazaki films 'cause they keep winning them awards XD. You shouldn't get a katana because it may look cool and all, but katanas are cleavers, and dismemberment isn't something a hero should be doing! You know, if you don't know what kind of sword you have it must have been sheethed right? So maybe you have a staff or something? But if you do go with a katana you should get it reverse bladed like Kenshin! Blade on the wrong side, so you can capture people like a hero should!

You do need to figure out a way to help move people's bodies when you freeze time. Perhaps a simple machine of some sort. Does anyone who did well in high school physics have any ideas? (My apologies, I'm better at language and history myself.)

Yes, we do like Miyazaki's films quite a lot! Disney movies were the most popular animation during my childhood but in the last decade especially quite a few good Japanese animated movies have been brought over and translated. Especially popular are Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away. My own personal favorite though is Howl's Moving Castle. Sophie is a good female role model, I think. Most other good female role models seem so outgoing, but Sophie is more introverted like me so I really identify with her.

Sorry, no idea about what to name a sword. I do think you should come up with something original, though. I will kindly refrain from making jokes about men and their swords too, haha.

That just gave me an idea though! You should stop and rent some American movies, or even some japanese animes that have been dubbed in english. I'll bet it'll help you learn the language, or at least give you some cool phrases to say over and over again to the point of annoyance. Or wait, I guess you can't. Nothing to watch them on. Dang. Well, at least sit yourself down in front of the boob tube in the next motel you check into.

As for sword names, isn't this sort of like counting your chickens before they hatch? You don't even have the thing yet and you're already naming it. I'm sure once you've finally gotten it you'll already know what you want to call it, and it'll be something completely relevant to you. Naming anything in the real world after something imaginary -no matter how cool that something is- is just lame. It's like calling your pet collie Lassie. Naming her after a TV dog won't mean she's gonna start pulling little boys named Timmy out of wells.

To get a Katana would be like getting a Light Saber (which I know you have a deep affection for Star Wars) so that could be why you have one in the future...How exciting to be expecting your own "light saber"!

You might receive it from a distant relative...They tell you a lesson about your past, which relates to how you are now, but they don't know about your special ability...It is all a sign for you to use "the force" (or special ability to stop time) for greater good while having your Katana to remind you of your heritage and where your future destiny lies.

As for naming your Katana, how does "Chop Suey" sound? The name reminds me of what the Katana can do...It can chop things up into little pieces. Ironically, each individual hero (which are like ingredients used to make Chop Suey) are mixed together to make a dish and eventually stop hunger (which are like the bad guys).

I like Miyazaki's "Howl's Moving Castle"...Characters in that movie have special abilities too...Some are used for good and some are used for bad, but in the end a loving heart saves the soul. Beautiful isn't it?

Anyway,
If you can find a good Chinese restaurant try some Chop Suey, it can be quite fulfilling after a long journey...

You've mentioned you can stop time. When, (and if this happens), time is frozen for even a minute, my guess is it must be like when someone is effected by this "time freeze" will not have any recollection of being in that situation themselves. It may be like passing out from having a seizure, a *black out*. That when the person/people wake up from this "time freeze" there's no memory. The natural reaction when waking up from this *black out* is confusion, loss of time from memory, and this depends on different people, slowness in returning back to feeling like themselves.

My life's been saved many times over. Thank you for helping those that can not help themselves.

As for the name of the sword. Just call it "My Sword".

i hope those help. Masamune has been used so many times. I think you should have an original name for your sword. something that relates with your powers and your personality. 2. slowing time mabey you could do it longer than 1 min.

I do like Miyazaki's films. About your katana, I think that names like Masamune, Murasame, Excalibur and so, ara cool, but a sword's name have to have a meaning.
If I had your powers, I wold name my katana with something related to time cut. A game wich would inspire me would be Square's Chronno Trigger for super famicon, have you played this game?
There is a character named Glenn who uses a sword called Masamune, but I guess something like Crono would fit you best.

I don't think there are a lot of Jawas in American deserts. You'll be more likely to see cowboys probably.

I haven't heard of "9th Wonders" before. It sounds like it's an independently done comic book. You and this kid may be the only fans. :( But who knows? Maybe you'll help make this comic a huge success.

I think you'll find the cheerleader eventually. I don't know if she'll have pom-poms with her, but she will probably be in uniform.

Miyazaki is one of the (if not the) greatest animators of all time. I saw "Castle in the Sky." I remember how the theme haunted me for days. Most of his movies have good music like that. I remember I nearly cried when the girl said the Spell of Destruction. But then I saw that the kids were ok. /\o/\ (Sorry, not as good as you on the emoticons thing.) I loved "Spirited Away," and I really want to see "Howl's Moving Castle." I don't think that's the same movie. It's based on a book written by an English author that's a lot like Harry Potter or Shrek. Maybe you ought to check it out. It could help you improve your English. In America, you can borrow books for free. You just have to get a library card.

Oh, and I finally saw your first entry. I've been looking for it because when you posted it I didn't even know this blog existed. I couldn't post my comment there since it was an old entry. So if you don't mind, I'll tell you here what my dream is. I want to be an English professor. That basically means I want to teach students about 18-23 years old about books, maybe not just English books (but definitely translated into English) but maybe stuff from all around the world. I might teach a little Japanese stuff because I think it's very cool. I also have a slightly less realistic dream. I want to be a writer. Now, they tell me that if I want to be a professor I will definitely write, but I want to write for fun too. I want to write fantasy books for children mostly to help fill the void Harry Potter will be sure to leave when he goes away. I'm not saying that I expect it will be the next Harry Potter, but I hope it will at least be somewhat successful. I also have ideas for a comic book character, but I don't know if I can do that. I'd definitely have to find somebody who's better at art than me to draw it. Maybe you can mention me to Mr. Isaac when and if you find him.

Hero, if you find a Cantina with Jawas, look for Luke Skywalker and send him a kiss. Then look for Han Solo, he has the fastest ship in the galaxy, even if it looks like junk, and your trip will be considerably shortened!
Or you could have Lightning McQueen give you a ride! ;)

Hiro, you did a good thing in saving their lives. You can stop time for what seems like a minute to you, but how often can you do it? Do you get really tired after you do it? You need to keep practicing! You can't only use it when you need to, you need to gain some skill so you can do it really well when you need to. How are you going to find the cheerleader?

You should tell Isaac that he will draw a comic about you, and ask him what that "new" symbol for "Helix comics" means. Maybe that will help you out?

you should name the katana "striker". but instead of one katana you should have TWO. that way when freezing time you could take down more people. oh yes. i have a question for the FUTURE Hiro. what happens to Ando?

Some Americans watch Miyazaki films, but not enough! My favorite is Spirited Away. Miyazaki loves to create Heroes like you; they're normal people but they find the power in themselves to conquer whatever obstacles need to be conquered and always do the right thing. If you keep them as your guide, you can't go wrong. Be true to yourself and let that instinct guide you. Lawful good is what you want to be? So that you shall be. And the Katana is a very good choice ;-) I think it suits you. Don't worry about people smiling and thanking you... They don't understand themselves, much less someone so intriguing as yourself. Look not for glory, but for the path of the righteous. I think you'll find the Cheerleader soon enough. Be strong!
