I have a question.
I know that you want this site to be a success and that you will be doing everything you can to promote it. I'm guessing that maybe part of that promotion will be to show some of the videos on the TV. I'm just wondering that if you do show somebody's submission on the TV, whether you will email that person in advance to let them know the date and time. Let's face it, word of mouth advertising is, and always has been, free:
"Guess what guys? I uploaded a video to IYS and it's gonna be on the TV tonight at 10:20! I could also win $100,000!!!"
"Well, w00tage to you - we're all gonna upload our videos too."
"What's IYS?" (there's always one isn't there?).
You may wonder why I'm asking this. A big part of the reason is that Brooke's involved with this site and I want it to be successful for her. The main reason is that one of the videos that I uploaded features my son's band, Ebriety, and I was wondering whether you were planning to do something like "IYS is so fantastic that these talented musicians all the way over in England recorded one of their rehearsals just to get on the site even though they know the prizes are only for us Americans". This would be great advertising for IYS and could have a further advantage for the site too. Ebriety are just starting out in their musical career and are desperate for new equipment (there are six band members, even though only three were at that particular rehearsal). If their video was featured on U.S. television, then that would be a good news story for the local T.V. over here which would mean free advertising for IYS in the UK (and a whole bunch more video uploads). This would also be an opportunity for Ebriety to approach local businesses for some sponsorship for the equipment that they need - let's face it, handing over an oversized check on the TV with three zeros on the end could be worth as much as handing over a standard check with five zeros on the end for paid advertisements.
The biggest advantage to you is the warm, self satisfied feeling of contentment that you will get inside knowing that you have done a good turn without it costing you a penny - in fact it would lead to more uploads, more views and more subscribers and ultimately more money. What could be better than that?
Wow thanks Carson. That really means a lot to us (me and Brent). I hope Brent continues to get what he deserves. He's such an awesome dude. Glad you dig the song Carson. There is more where that came from.

well i always thought carson was a pompus twit ... but he did get a few points in his favor for liking this video ... and id think carson would really rock if he could get mtv to play videos again like when i was young and growing up ... then mtv news came on and it was all downhill from there
