Agent 0 - Believe the Hype?
Gilbert Arenas has been praised by guys like coach Flip Saunders, LeBron James, Andre Iguodala and Quentin Richardson for his play and recovery from three knee surgeries this summer. But even if he does come into the season fully healthy, should he be trusted?
The simple answer is "I don't know." Three knee surgeries on a guy who made a living out of quickness is tough to swallow. But he finally took a whole year off to get healthy and Flip sounded almost blown away by how good Arenas looks right now.
"The strength in his leg, that's been operated on has been off the charts. He's played. Everybody knows that he's kind of a workaholic when it comes to basketball. He says he's averaging 44 points a game in the Chicago Pro Am. So he's got his scoring touch back. He's getting his confidence back. I think he's excited about where he's at. He looks good. Weight is lower. And I think he's anxious for training camp. And I think he feels he's got some things to prove because he hasn't played in the last year and a half. He's ready to go."
LeBron James chimed in with "He's almost back. He's about, probably, in the high 90s. I'll say that. He's good. He's good. He's good. He should be happy that he's back on track. No limping, no nothing."
And Andre Iguodala Tweeted that "gilbert arenas is back like he left his black card!" Which prompted Quentin Richardson to add "he aint lyin yall!! Thats real!" Of course, I'm not sure what that means exactly, but it sounds pretty good to me.
So you have to think that Arenas is on track to be at least near full strength when the season starts. Given all this hype, it's easy to get excited about the guy who was (mistakenly) taken with the No. 1 overall pick in one of my drafts in 2007. He averaged 28.5 points, 6.0 dimes, 4.6 boards, 1.9 steals, 2.8 3-pointers and 3.2 turnovers in his last full season, which came way back in 2006-07.
My guess is that Arenas will play in about 68 games and average more than 23 points and a couple threes per. But if his knee gets sore, which is probably inevitable, he could easily miss more than 14 games. I think taking a gamble on him in the third round makes sense, as he could end up providing first-round value. If I need a scoring guard in Round 3, I might take the bait. But until I see him in some preseason games, I'm probably more likely to let someone else deal with him. And that person could end up winning the league if they come out of Round 4 with a roster of Chris Paul, Gerald Wallace, Arenas and Josh Smith.

Comments
If he has a strong and setback-free preseason, I can see Arenas going in the 2nd in my league. Hell, if he has an outstanding preseason, he could slide back into the bottom of the 1st if someone's foolish enough. And I'm just the fool to take him that high, even though he burned me badly two seasons ago.

Going 2nd taken ahead of LBJ, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade? Your league must be full of idiots.

Ke, you seriously need to prop up your reading skills before you move on with your life.

I think he has the potential to go early second as even if he isn't as quick as before, his 3pt shooting gets so hot so often that he could well replace the points he got going to the charity line with 3 point shooting. I also think his attitude towards his game has changed, i think he'll be looking for his team mates more often which will be good for his overall line.
I think it's safe to say, a lot of potential to excite and disappoint.

I'm going to venture a guess that a "black card" is the color of credit cards with very high limits that the wealthy have. Thus, forgetting your black card could be more damaging than just a normal credit card. Just a guess.
