NBA Draft Lottery Diary
7:41 PM - Isiah Thomas is missing from tonight's action, which is just sad. He has that great smile, great suits, is arguably a draft genius (one of the only things he's done right since winning a championship with the Pistons as a player) and would be good for a few jokes at his expense tonight. However, James Dolan and Donnie Walsh have shipped him off to scout talent....in Siberia! Actually, it's France and Italy, but as far as Knicks fans are concerned, he might as well be in Siberia.
Here are some of the folks we'll see tonight at the lottery fiesta. The lottery officially starts in 20 minutes.
Kings: Margie Parilo - Superfan. Some of the Maloofs will be there as well, but Margie will be in the spotlight. Nope, not a joke.
Pacers: Larry Legend - With Walsh outta the picture, it's Larry's world now.
Heat: Dwyane Wade - Hopefully he doesn't dive for any loose ping pong balls tonight.
Bucks: GM Lionel Hammond - Who?
Grizzlies: Rudy Gay - Not to be confused with Brandon Roy.
Sonics: Kevin Durant - ROY hoping to bring good luck to Oklahoma City
Timberwolves: Fred Hoiberg (The Mayor)
Bobcats: GM Rod Higgins - Jordan's ex-teammate back in the spotlight.
Bulls: Steve Schanwald (VP Bus. Ops) - I'd rather see Benny the Bull - He woulda been good for a inflicting pain on someone, probably would have gotten involved in a lawsuit, and could have taken Wade's arm off with a high five if the Bulls get the first pick.

Memphis 22-60 137 13.70% 14.16% 14.48%
New York 23-59 76 7.60% 8.44% 9.47%

7:45 - Knicks will be represented by new coach Mike D'Antoni, who won't have the luxury of watching David Stern pull a frozen card with a bent corner this year.
7:54 - Jay-Z is representing the Nets. Luckily, the Wizards aren't in the lottery, or you-know-who would be there. It's also too bad the Wizards aren't in so they could be represented by DeShawn Stevenson in an O.J. jersey.
8:03 - I don't know why, but i have a feeling the Knicks or Grizzlies are going to land the No. 1 pick. And if Memphis gets it, it will be fun to see if they can pass on Derrick Rose with a full load of PGs already in house, starting with Mike Conley and ending with Kyle Lowry.
8:05 - Danilo Gallinari might be better than Andrea Bargnani? Really, Jay Bilas? Does that even mean anything at this point?
8:06 - Jay-Z says he's an "investor" of his hard-earned money and is therefore representing the Nets. He also says he "loves" OJ Mayo. I think Mayo's nearly locked into the 3rd pick this year, after falling out of favor briefly. Do you think Stern's pumped about having hip hop representing at his draft lottery? You gotta love Jigga getting into the mix.
8:07 - Kings' superfan Margie Parilo, not to be confused with Danilo, calls herself the "luckiest person in the world." Her grandmother missed her cruise on the titanic, so the Kings probably have the No. 1 pick all sewn up.
8:12 - Rondo or Billups? Good question.
8:13 - Here come the cards - I don't see any bent corners, but one of them appears to be a different color and has a large black stripe on it.
8:14 - Commercial break - Braves game today, B McCann's two-run homer sealed the win for ATL, but more importantly, crushed a fresh breakout of the wave, which never raised it's ugly head again. Thank you, Brian. It's tough explaining to an 8 year old why "the wave" sucks, but I tried.
Mitch Richmond - GSW - Looking good
Larry Miller - Portland - Team President
Margie - Psyched to be sitting next to Bird. Her kids want her by Jigga, her husband wants her by Legend. She's in the ideal spot. The Kings are in!!!!
Jay-Z - No Control!
Nice!!!!!! Almost as if on cue, Doris calls Steve Schanwald STAN!!!! Priceless!!!!
Dunleavy is repping the Clips
D'Antoni calls NY media soft - Marc Berman's obviously on vacation.
The Mayor!! He's got his teddy bear with him, from Matthew Yamber - an ill superfan of the Wolves. Nice gesture, but I'm just hoping Doris got his name right.
Wade got thru the intro without hitting the floor...Good start for the Heat.
14th pick - Warriors - No surprise there, but will Nellie and Baron be back? That's the real question.
13th pick - Blazers - No win this year.
12th pick - Kings - Margie!! Wha' Happened?
11th pick - Pacers - Oops, but things are holding to form.
10th pick - Jay-Z comes in at 10 and the Nets will also get Dallas' first-round pick.
9th pick - Bobcats are No. 9. Bulls jump up to Top 3!!!!
8th pick - Bucks
7th pick - Clippers - Hopefully they do better than Korolev this time around.
6th pick - Knicks - Oh well.
5th pick - Grizzlies - Oh well, Part 2.
4th pick - Sonics - You can't win em all.
3rd pick - Wolves and the teddy bear.
2nd pick - Heat!!!
1st pick - Bulls!!!! That's what the league gets for referring to Steve as Stan - What a coup for the Bulls!!!! And she even called him Steve this time. Stan was of course non-committal on his pick, but they're taking Rose...And props to Stan for plugging the season tickets phone number on the "leader!"
What a freakin' story for the Bulls! They had the ninth best odds to land No.1 and only a 1.7% chance...Unbullievable! Now the question becomes do they trade the pick, or trade Kirk Hinrich? We'll soon find out I guess. Who knows how good this makes the Bulls. I guess the sky's the limit, as they were picked by many to challenge for the Eastern Conference title before coming apart at the seams this season. But they've got more talent than their record indicates and tonight's surprising victory could set them up for years to come.
Ok, other than the whole Stan fiasco, which I'm sure Steve is fine with since he's leaving New York with Rose or Beasley, there was very little unintentional humor this time around. Everyone even looked like they belonged on the podium, for the most part. It will be interesting to see if the Kings send a superfan again next year. Maybe Vlade Divac will get the call. Ok, I'm out of here. Thanks for checking in.

Hinrich moves to SG and they trade Gordon....you heard it here first.

Or the Bulls could for the big clear cut go to scorer in Beasley...btw, Gordon's gone anyways

@Bill --
I think Gordon is a restricted free agent, so the bulls could always get him back if they wanted.

I say we trade Deng and Gordon(or Hinrich), and go for Carmelo Anthony
PG-Rose
SG-Hinrich/Gordon
SF-Carmelo
PF-Gooden
C-Noah
6-Nocioni
7-Hughes
8-Thomas
9-Sefolosha
10-Duhon
11-Gray

GREGO: Not a bad idea!!!

I can't see the Bulls picking Beasley. They are PG starved. They go with Rose and at the very least ship out Duhon who could add value to a number of teams as a backup/half starter. He'd be a nice fit with the Cavs or Miami.
