    One 'Lucky' Girl

  • by Ryan Patterson, Supervising Producer

Some stars are born with amazing DNA... others create what nature didn't give them at the plastic surgeon's office. Mostly- though- it's all about having a personal beauty squad at their disposal day in and day out. A good team can camouflage anything...bad skin, bad hair, lack of sleep, wrinkles, plastic surgery scars, being hung over...you name it.

Yes, it's good to be rich and famous, and even though I am neither, I got a taste of the celebrity life when I was lucky enough to pose for the March issue of Lucky magazine. I was the subject of one of the magazine's regular features, "Hair Diaries."

A wonderful team of people worked their magic- a makeup artist, hair stylist, photographer, lighting assistant and of course- the magazine editor.

    The Police's Arresting Tour Rehearsal

    | Comments (0)

  • So, I'm sitting at my desk working on my latest "Where are they Now" American Idol story (which you will now have to wait until tomorrow to read). All of a sudden the assignment manager asks me if I can cruise up to Sunset Boulevard to the famous Rock & Roll club, The Whisky A Go Go. After their show-opening reunion at last night Grammy Awards, The Police are holding a press conference where they are about to make a big announcement.

The original producer, my next-door office mate, Michael Soares, was originally assigned to go and he was looking forward to it. However, he had been up most of the night covering the Grammys. So, I got the last minute call to go and Michael has this comment to make, "You are the most unworthy person to go!"

Staff Blog: Live From The Grammys

  • 4:54 pm – The red carpet is winding down and thankfully there were very few fashion mistakes. The last hour has been all about glamorous style. Leanne rimes made a reappearance in that gorgeous grape creation while super nominee Mary J. Blige opted for gold. We shall see if it brings her luck tonight.

Among the last few attendees rushing in? A sparkling Nelly Furtado, a blushing pink adorned Christina Aguilera and a Versace wearing Christina Ricci whose only stop on the fashion red carpet was for our own Stacy London.

    "I love you Stacy gushed."

"I love you! I read your book," Ricci cried as she ran to give Stacy a hug.

The carpet is about to close and we're rushing to our seats. Thanks for tuning in. Check back all night for more Grammy news, pictures and scoops.

    Profiting From Anna Nicole

Make no doubt about it -- the Anna Nicole hoopla has everything to do with money.

And not just the half a billion in Marshall family money up for grabs in Federal court.

The loss of Ms. Smith is a great tragedy. Although she always put on the “ditzy blonde” show in public, I always felt that I could see the troubled child lying just underneath the surface of her thick shell. She had a tremendous sense of childlike innocence about her. She seemed misunderstood, gentle, sweet & harmless.

I know I’m in the minority on this one, but I actually believed that she didn’t just marry J. Howard Marshall for his money. When I heard her speak of him, I genuinely believe that she loved him. Because let’s face it, amongst all of the many things that Anna Nicole was, she was not a great actress.

But it wasn’t just Larry Birkhead or Howard K. Stern who seemed to want a piece of the Anna gravy train – the entire media world wanted some of her as well.

    Remembering Anna Nicole

  • The news of Anna Nicole Smith's death is awful.

Without a hundred percent confirmation on the cause of death, I can only comment on the sadness of her life.

For years, I could hear nothing but laughter as she stumbled her way down red carpets or led cameras through her house, while she simulated sex acts on her bed or crawled fully clothed into her tub.

She constantly appeared incoherent and over medicated.

It was clear to me that she played the fool for public attention and that NOBODY was looking out for HER interests.

She reminds me of Chris Farley a little bit. Sadly addicted to chemicals AND peoples' attention.

Idol: Keeping the Top 24 Secret

    | Comments (1)

  • When you have a TV show that's watched by 30 plus million viewers, with a huge portion of the demographic fully ensconced in the digital age, is it any wonder that keeping the Top 24 a secret has become increasingly difficult for "American Idol" producers. Scour "Idol's" internet fan sites and message boards and you'll find any number of theories on who is in and who is out. Some of them are wild guesses while others seem shockingly accurate...right down to telling us which contestants are in which groups during Hollywood week and even what song they sang. Can we take these things with a grain (er, dish) of salt? Probably not. My gut instinct tells me that some of these Spoilers are right on the money.

Director's Take: Christina Aguilera On Set Visit

    | Comments (0)
  • On Monday, Shaun Robinson interviewed Christina Aguilera on our Stage. She was great! I remember her as a child from her Mickey Mouse Club days and it is still difficult to see her as anything other than that funny, sweet, slightly mischievous teen. It is such a pleasure to see what she’s become today: a poised and accomplished artist and a very personable human being.

On our Access Hollywood stage we’re a little short on camera operators, owing to budget constraints. Currently we have two. So, we compensate by using all the cameras we have, locking off several of them on specific shots and roaming with the handhelds. We “float” a wide shot with the jib, which in TV terms is not a staysail (although there are some days when high winds aloft on stage warrant one!) but a mechanical arm with a camera attached to the end. The jib moves about getting our wide shot cover.

    Jen's Plans For Adoption?

  • Imagine a conversation between Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox in which Aniston told her friend "about her fears that she’d never have a child of her own," as reported exclusively by Life & Style magazine.

And imagine hearing Aniston talk about how she "was depressed and feeling sorry for herself," also recounted by a Life & Style source. Then imagine, Cox telling Aniston, "Snap out of it! If you want a baby that badly, adopt. It worked for your ex-husband’s girlfriend!’"

Finally, imagine Aniston "reasoning with herself that if Angelina Jolie could pull it off, why couldn’t she?”

    A 'Snicker's' Rebuttal

    | Comments (1)
  • By Annie Krasnow, Coordinating Editor, AH.com

Everyone loves a funny Super Bowl commercial. In fact, that's why many people watch the game in the first place. But, the Super Bowl is a sporting event first and foremost. And the sports world happens to be a homophobic one. There are very few professional players that are out of the closet and NO active male team player has ever declared his homosexuality publicly. In the incredibly testosterone charged big game atmosphere, it is irresponsible for SNICKERS to have run their ad.

Why is making fun of gay people acceptable? If this were a white woman and a black man going in for an accidental kiss, would it be funny that the characters acted disgusted? Maybe 50 years ago, but today it would be bigotry. It is dangerous to say that any type of person is disgusting. And it is dangerous to say that being gay makes you less of a man .

Yes, the ad got a lot of press. And we're talking about SNICKERS. But we are also continuing to have much needed dialogue about the homophobic sports culture. It's a good thing that the fun is being taken out of prejudice.

Remote Patroller: 'Snicker'ing Over A Commercial

In case you are still in hibernation or vacationing under a rock (or just don't give a darn), there's a big brouhaha over a Super Bowl commercial from the fine folks who bring us SNICKERS bars (Masterfoods) Quickly: the spot features two mechanics working on a car engine.

One shoves a completely unwrapped Snickers into his mouth (presumably so he won't get grease on it) and his buddy, upon seeing the protruding treat, decides to attack it from the other end. Then, not unlike the animated pooches eating spaghetti in "Lady and the Tramp," they meet in the middle and accidentally smooch. Quickly realizing that they just might have enjoyed something more than chocolate, peanuts and nougat (love that word), the two decide to 'erase' it by "doing something manly."

So they both rip a wad of hair off their chests, scream in pain and all is well.

Cue the logo and we're done.
